Planet Zoo 2, launching October 13, 2026, is the fourth game published under Frontier Developments' Planet label. The label splits into two lines: a coaster line and a zoo line. Planet Zoo 2 belongs to the zoo line, continuing the game that launched on November 5, 2019.

The Planet series timeline, verified on Steam
| Game | Release date | Line |
|---|---|---|
| Planet Coaster | November 17, 2016 | Coaster |
| Planet Zoo | November 5, 2019 | Zoo |
| Planet Coaster 2 | November 6, 2024 | Coaster |
| Planet Zoo 2 | October 13, 2026 | Zoo |
All four dates come straight from each title's own Steam store page, and all four games are Frontier Developments releases. The spacing is worth noting for anyone guessing at support plans: the zoo line has run a seven-year cycle so far, 2019 to 2026.
What Planet Zoo 2 keeps from Planet Zoo 1
The sequel stays inside the same design family as the 2019 game:
- Piece-by-piece building with scaling and colour customisation, now extended by the path and nature tools shown in official screenshots
- Animal welfare as the core management loop, now with an individual animal panel covering welfare, enrichment and vet requests
- A workshop for player creations. The new Frontier Workshop is confirmed to share blueprints across platforms, not just between Steam users
The structural new additions are the aquarium and aviary systems, fully aquatic and fully flying species for the first time, and Wildlife Reserves, where animals you raised can be released into ecosystems you build yourself.
What carries over: the unanswered questions
⚠️ Not announced. None of the items below has an official answer. Community threads keep asking every one of them, and Frontier has not responded on any first-party channel.
- Save files. Whether Planet Zoo 1 zoos can be imported has not been addressed.
- Blueprints. Whether workshop creations from the first game transfer is unknown.
- DLC animals. The first game sold a long run of animal packs, including the Aquatic Pack, Africa Pack, Europe Pack, Twilight Pack, Tropical Pack, Oceania Pack, Conservation Pack and Asia Animal Pack. Whether any of those species appear in the sequel's base game or future content has not been announced.
The last point matters because the DLC question is the one with money attached. Players who bought first-game animal packs have no confirmed path, and no confirmed denial, about seeing those animals again. Until Frontier speaks, the honest answer on every carryover question is not announced.
